The triennial Ecology and Art exhibition has a rare property, possessed by few biennials or triennials: it is always different. Since its beginnings in 1980 it has been driven by a single idea: artists finding the answers to different social, cultural, ecological, technological as well as political issues in contemporary society Formal aspects of the triennial have been open and changing from exhibition to exhibition, The theme was somehow inevitable: the more and more obvious Americanisation of culture and life styles in Europe, as well as a reflection of the "American dream" in art production, In this year's exhibition we wish to draw the attention of the public to the worldwide globalisation of culture that is to a great extent influenced by American pop-culture. It is a worthy challenge for the institution of the Art Gallery of Maribor to engage American and Slovene artists in a meaningful dialogue.
